    Default Xsara fan switch

Does the fan switch fail open or shut as the fan runs constantly?

The attached (from Tridon cata)would suggest it fails open

And, in going open circuit, sends a signal to bitron to turn fans on full.
    Hope this helps

It is more likely that one of the controller relays has carked. Their contacts erode; I am starting to think that either you shuffle the trio of relays around between positions every year, or replace the eroded one every ten years.

It probably depends on the engine, but I do know a Berlingo of the same age will put the cooling fans to high and give an overheat warning when it's confronted with a bad coolant temperature sensor. Do you get an overheating warning when it's cold? The Berlingo also had a resistor pack that failed and gave only high speed fans. I'm not sure if the same concept is used in the Xsara.
