    Hi

The "new car" is a R17TL - yellow, with custom sunroof. It has an R18 5-speed box and a fairly good engine with a wade cam (NOT SURE OF THE GRIND). I have twin dellortos to put on it, so it should go pretty well when I get it running. It has been sitting for quite a while, but looks OK, and very importantly it has a straight body - rare now days!

I will post pics when I pick it up next Monday 22nd, after it has had a wash.

    Cheers

    Luke

PS - Any comment on R18 boxes in the R15/17 models? They are taller geared aren't they?
I think I remember a tread a while ago on this.

    Luke,
Lucky you, I'd love to get my hands on a good R17. Come to think of it, getting my hands on the money would be better first. roll_lau
The R18 5 speed will most likely be the 395 box.
The 17 5 speed was the 365 5 spped which was a close ratio box where 5th is only just below 1:1 being 0.93:1 and the 395 is a 4speed with overdrive 5th at 0.86:1. The R18 box is just an R12 type box with the 5th gear. Either way, you've got one more gear than a standard 17, which is what they always needed.

    Ah very good

I have been waiting for years to find a reasonable on too.

This new car does need work though, but it is straight, and mechs are good

Are the R18 boxes weaker than standard R15/17 boxes?

    Thanks for the info.

My Father in-law is going to restore her. He is a keen real car enthusiast. He has owned Fiats, BMW's Jags etc. He is very excited about the project. We may actually have two R15/17 on the road again in ACT in reasonable condition.
