Good luck getting a 106 or 309 kid. I've only seen one 309 in Melb and he's scared to stop at red light's coz i've told him i was gonna car-jack him!

In answer to your question though depends on the following factors

How much you want to spend?

Purpose of vehicle? (fun cruisy car, family, tad of bush bashing ect)

for example if want to go under 15K with the family and a bit of fun in mind a 405 mi16 or 505 GTI is perfect.

If you feel like giving the car a bit a kick down the roads of Warrnambool a 205 GTI would be the way to go or a 306 xsi, s16 or gti-6.

crap, sorry 'bout that, I guess I shoulda checked before I wrote my name, anyways back to the car, I'm just about to get my P's and am a mad Peugeot fan so I figured Peugeot should be my first car, I have a budget of about 15K. I want to spend money on getting my car a few body kits as seen at web page
Only problem is that I haven't a clue as wher to get those similar kits in Aussie, so if anyone has info on body kits that would be great!

... for around 15K, id get a N5 306 XSi, it has the very good Pug handling, fun, features, age, looks, fixability-per dollar ratio of most of the newer pugs.
Ask Deka just how nice they are.
cheers Chris

Yup, excellent car

$15 000 hey? Are you *sure* you want to spend that much money on your first car? I would have though $2000-$3000 would be a good budget for a first car, sort your self out and then buy something nicer when you're 21 or 22 if you want to? I am 23, so I'm not being an old fuddy duddy here either.

$15 000 would get you a 1997 or 1998 (maybe) 306XSi. One with crystal headlights etc (N5 Update) like mine would be more like $21 000+ depending on condition and kilometres travelled.

Personally, if you want your first car to be a Peugeot, get a 504 or 505, have a ball, thrash it, and at least you don't have to worry too much. We've got a 504 in the family - I learnt to drive in one. I don't drive it often anymore, but when I do, it is amazing how good they are and how well they hold the road. The ride is something unbelieveable as well. Another issue... I'd hate to imagine insurance on a 306XSi for an 18 year old. Let alone a 306GTi6.

Welcome to Aussiefrogs anyway, and hope you enjoy yourself here.

Derek

(edit)P.S. This photo provides a great indication of N5 Update (left) - my car; early N5 owned by JFN306(centre) and N3 owned by Chri'S16(right)

a 106XND? diesel yeah - probably well out of my price range... That must get fantastic fuel economy. Its a pity we didnt get the 106s in aus. From what i've read the 106 GTI is the closest to the 205 peugeot ever came again.

All the best,
Nick

Let me get this straight...
You're looking for a car under 15K, you wouldn't mind a 405 and you mentioned you want to fit an Ecosse kit....

if only I knew where to get all that...

Latest pic here

For details about the car click the link in my sig.
I'll even throw in a couple of Ecosse stickers with the sale wink

email me at [email protected]
for more info, current asking price is low teens with standard leather interior and 150bhp motor.

cheers,
Andreas

By the way purrrgeot, only a few months ago I was in exactly the same situation as you are now. I got my licence and had about 15K to spend. Now as much as i wish i could have bought a 306XSI i stuck with the sluggish 306XT, which mind you isnt a bad car i just won't go quick, corners like a peugeot should though.

Insurance, maintenance, after market parts(body kits ect) DONT COME CHEAP AT ALL!!!! espicially for an 18 year old. Alot of my mates in the rice burner skylines and the like, seem to have forgotten about this side of car ownership and now catch the train and only use their cars on the weekends!

In hindsight i wish i bought a 205GTI lived with it for a year or two, then my insurance rating would be better (touchwood) and then saved a bit and bought a gti-6 or xsi or maybe gti-180(keep dreaming asanka approve )

As far as bodykits you basically got to go direct from the suppliers in europe or pay alot more for someone in aus to get it for you.

In all honesty i would reccomend two cars 205 GTI or Andreas mi16. cheers!

well to tell you the truth I have taken insurance, car mainteance and all that into account and I can honestly say that, because I am deffering for a year, I can afford a newish 15K car; my dad is an old school peugeot fan so he has offered to help me buy one. THat's pretty cool that you live in the Bool Rowan, how old are you. Anyways I've had a look at a few Mi16's, I love 'em but the only problem is that they are a bit too old for me as they will cost more to get parts for than the more recent 205's, 305's (I think), but I am always looking to buy so if you could I would love some pics. Andreas that is a mighty head_ban fine car, where do you live? Could you also get some insurance info for me as well?

Thanks for the help

205's and 405's are pretty much the same when it comes to age and $ for repairs.

It's not as bad as you think, plenty of wreckers have parts and plenty of people here with parts lying around for sale.

I'll need details to help you with insurance, probably best to email me.

it'll depend alot on spec of the car, with only the kit and wheels insurance shouldn't be much of a problem, with lowering you might start pushing it for regular insurance companies...just cars wont be a prob.

With just the kit and wheels i'd be looking for about $12,000neg with rwc.
I'm in Melbourne, I could have the car ready like that in a week or so if interested.

Purrrgeot what a bargain man, id come all the way from warnabool just to see the car! Im assuming you want a 306 by the sounds of things, as i said before, id get "normal" pug and save up for a 306xsi or gti as insurance will be costly.
